Investing in Your Child’s Future

Investing in Mississippi’s Next Generation

Mississippi children have an opportunity to begin adulthood on a strong financial footing. Thanks to the 2025 Working Families Tax Cuts Act, child investment accounts, formally known as “Trump Accounts,” give families a new way to invest in their children’s futures while teaching the value of saving and long-term financial planning.

How it Works

As of October 1, 2026, all American children have been automatically enrolled in a Trump Account. Children born between 2025 and 2026 will receive a one-time $1,000 contribution from the federal government to begin investing for their future. Children of any age are eligible for an account started with funds from parents, grandparents, charities, or employers. Each account has a $5,000 per-year contribution limit.

Eligible children born before 2025 may also qualify for a $250 privately funded contribution. They will also be automatically enrolled should they be eligible. Check your child’s eligibility here.

Although these accounts are automatic, parents and guardians must claim the child’s investment account to receive the contributions.

Investing in Their Future

Starting early gives these investments more time to grow and provides children with an opportunity to learn important lessons about saving and managing money. Until their child turns 18 years old, parents/guardians will retain control over these accounts.

The “Trump Accounts” app makes it easier for parents to claim and manage their child’s account while providing financial education resources to help young Americans understand investing and prepare for their financial futures. Download the app here for Apple devices. These accounts will help Mississippi families give their children an early start toward financial independence and achieving their American Dream.
