Wicker Responds to President’s Speech on Afghanistan

Miss. Senator Calls on President Biden to ‘Use Every Available Resource’ to Get People Out

August 20, 2021

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today issued the following statement after the conclusion of remarks from President Joseph R. Biden on the current crisis in Afghanistan:

“President Biden’s speech today was of little worth to the thousands of Americans and Afghan allies still trapped in the country. He committed once again to getting all Americans and Afghan allies out, but provided no details whatsoever on how he would do so. He also made the absurd claim that this crisis has not caused our allies to question our credibility.

“In the meantime, Americans are being told they must make it to the Kabul airport on their own, even while Britain and France are sending armed teams into Kabul to get their citizens out. There is no reason the United States should not be doing the same.

“President Biden created this unnecessary mess and now has a responsibility to fix it. With the Taliban consolidating their power, there is no time to delay. The president must use every available resource to get every last American and Afghan ally out.”
