Sens. Wicker, Cochran Announce $120,000 Grant for Mathiston

August 26, 2008

WASHINGTON – The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has approved a $120,000 grant for Mathiston, U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran said today.  The funds will be used to make water infrastructure improvements in order to provide safe, potable water to 422 households and 31 businesses.

“Clean water is critical to attaining a better quality of life for those in rural Mississippi,” Sen. Wicker said.  “This funding will provide the residents in Mathiston with a safe and adequate water supply.”

ARC funds will be used to repair Mathiston’s only operational water tank and an existing well.  Additionally, the tank will be painted in order to prevent interior and exterior rusting and pitting.

In addition to the ARC grant, the local community will provide $30,000, bringing the total project funding to $150,000.
