Wicker Votes to Advance Disapproval of Iran Deal

Harry Reid, Senate Democrats Orchestrate Partisan Filibuster

September 10, 2015

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today voted to advance a resolution to disapprove the President’s nuclear deal with Iran. The measure, H.J. Res. 61, requires 60 votes in order to proceed to a final up-or-down vote. It failed because of a partisan filibuster organized by 42 Senate Democrats.

“The American people deserve to know where their elected representatives stand on this monumental issue,” Wicker said. “Instead, Senate Democrats are going to great procedural lengths to avoid a direct up-or-down vote on this dangerous agreement.

“At this critical moment, we should remain resolute in our goal to deny Iran the ability to obtain a nuclear weapon. The United States needs to go back to the drawing board and work toward a better deal. We need an agreement that reinforces U.S. leadership and global security – not one that risks facilitating Iran’s dangerous nuclear aims.”
