Sens. Wicker and Cochran Announce $24,000 Grant for Scooba Police Department

September 25, 2008

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sens. Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran today announced that Scooba has been selected to receive a $24,000 grant to help purchase a new police car through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development program.  A new police car is needed due to the age and lack of dependability of the police department’s current patrol vehicles.

“Law enforcement officers in Scooba provide an invaluable service to the citizens of their community,” Senator Wicker said.  “This grant will help fund a new patrol car in order to help the Scooba Police Department continue to protect the citizens they serve.”

The USDA Rural Development Program aims to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life in rural America.  This is done by providing financial and technical assistance to foster growth and new opportunities for business development, home ownership, and critical community and technology infrastructure.
