Wicker Statement on Pending Nomination of Congressman John McHugh as Secretary of the Army

June 2, 2009

WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Miss., a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today praised the selection of Rep. John McHugh as Secretary of the Army.

“The nomination of John McHugh to serve as the next Secretary of the Army is positive news for our men and women in uniform.  Having served with him in the House of Representatives, I have the utmost respect for Representative McHugh and applaud the president’s decision.  As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I look forward to enthusiastically supporting his nomination.

“I also want to commend the job of Secretary Pete Geren.  Secretary Geren assumed the post during a difficult period for our Army.  The Secretary has worked to support our soldiers and their families.  He has been an outstanding ambassador for our Army and has served our country honorably.”
