Wicker Supports President’s ‘Protect Life Rule’

Miss. Senator Requested Rule to Prevent Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Providers

May 22, 2018

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., supports the Trump Administration’s “Protect Life Rule,” which will bar Title X Family Planning grantees from co-locating with abortion clinics or referring clients for abortions. The new rule restores Reagan-era regulations to prevent federal funding of Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers.

“President Trump’s ‘Protect Life Rule’ will ensure U.S. taxpayers never subsidize abortion,” Wicker said. “I joined many of my colleagues in seeking this change because we must protect the unborn. The federal government should never provide funding or grants to abortion providers.”

Earlier this month, Wicker was among 40 senators who wrote U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar to request this change.
