Wicker- “President’s policies are making economy worse”

Washington, DC – Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) today made the following statement after President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress.

“The President’s proposals are not likely to make much difference in job creation,” Wicker said.  “He has made matters worse with excessive spending, a massive regulatory burden on job creators, and an unwillingness to use our own natural resources such as oil, natural gas, and coal.  We need fewer federal regulations and more American energy.”

Earlier in the week, Wicker called on the President to end the de facto moratorium on American energy production and cut burdensome federal regulations to spur job creation.  In part, Wicker wrote that we should, “rein in President Obama’s big-government agenda and put confidence back in the economy.  Eliminating unnecessary regulations offers an effective way forward.”  More from Wicker’s column can be found here.

The unemployment rate in August was 9.1 percent and no net, new jobs were created according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  An estimated 14 million Americans remain out of work.  Since the President’s stimulus was in February, 2009, 1.7 million jobs have been lost.
Audio of Wicker’s reaction can be found here.
