Wicker Votes Against ‘Green New Deal’

Miss. Senator Opposes $93 Trillion, Socialist-Inspired Plan

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., today voted against S.J. Res. 8, the “Green New Deal.” The plan, introduced by Democrats in the House and Senate, would remake America’s economy and society through a radical new approach to energy, infrastructure, and the role of government. The American Action Forum estimates the proposal would cost taxpayers up to $93 trillion. The resolution failed to attain the 60 votes required to advance in the Senate.

“The ‘Green New Deal’ is likely the most economically-disastrous and expensive proposal ever considered by the Senate,” Wicker said. “The plan would replace today’s economic growth, low unemployment, and rising wages with bankruptcy, unattainable mandates, and the failed policies of socialism. These ideas have become mainstream in the Democratic Party with more than 100 congressional cosponsors including many presidential candidates. Today’s vote was a necessary rebuke of this outlandish and absurd proposal.”
