Wicker: Obama’s Budget Threatens Economic Growth

March 4, 2014

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., a member of the Senate Budget Committee, today issued the following statement after President Obama released his proposed FY2015 budget:

“The President’s budget amounts to nothing more than a partisan document that bows to the political left. Rather than building on the savings achieved in the Ryan-Murray budget agreement, it is disappointing that the President wants to increase spending, as well as raise taxes to the tune of $1.8 trillion. These policies would stifle economic growth, destroy jobs, and threaten American prosperity.”

The President’s plan increases spending by $791 billion over 10 years, including $56 billion in 2015 above the spending levels in the Ryan-Murray budget deal that Obama signed into law in January. The federal debt would rise to $25 trillion in 2024, with annual interest payments reaching $812 billion.
