Sens. Wicker, Cochran Announce $60,000 Grant for the Mantee Water Association

August 26, 2008

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Roger Wicker and Thad Cochran today announced the Appalachian Regional Commission has approved a grant in the amount of $60,000 to the Mantee Water Association to repair its water supply tank.  The funding will help provide safe, sanitary water for 150 households and 11 businesses.

“Improving water infrastructure is critical to attaining a better quality of life for those in rural Mississippi,” Sen. Wicker said.  “This grant will help provide safe water for the citizens served by the Mantee Water Association.”

Mantee’s 50,000-gallon water tank is deteriorating and has extensive interior and exterior rust damage.  ARC funds will be used to repair, blast and repaint the tank and ensure the community has access to an adequate and sanitary water supply.

In addition to the ARC grant, the local community will provide $15,000, bringing the total project funding to $75,000.
