Wicker Comments on Future of Navy Report

Seapower Chairman to Begin Holding Hearings, Roundtable Discussions Next Week

May 17, 2017

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., Chairman of the Senate Seapower Subcommittee, today issued the following statement regarding a report issued by the Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. John Richardson, about the future of the Navy:

“This report represents a valuable contribution to the urgent national project of rebuilding naval power. We need a bigger and more capable Navy. Ships and aircraft should be better connected across platforms and warfighting domains. I also believe that congressional oversight and support are imperative. To that end, my subcommittee will begin a series of hearings and roundtable discussions next week to explore the best ways of achieving a 355-ship Navy.”
