TAIPEI – U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and U.S. Senator Deb Fischer arrived today in Taipei, Taiwan, at approximately 11:00 a.m. local time.
While in Taiwan, the Senators are slated to meet with President Lai, Vice President Hsiao, National Security Council Secretary General Joseph Wu, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other senior leaders.
“Taiwan is one of our country’s most reliable partners in the Indo-Pacific region. Our continued cooperation is critical amid what I regard as the most perilous threat environment we have faced since World War II,” said Chairman Wicker on landing. “The Taiwanese people, the success of their highly advanced economy, and their resolve to live in a free society, are a symbol of hope for the world. I’m glad to be here and to stand shoulder to shoulder with the free people of Taiwan as we work together to enhance their right to self-determination.”
“America’s decades-long partnership with Taiwan has been anchored in growth to democracy, freedom, and economic opportunity — creating not only greater prosperity for our people, but also greater stability for the world,” said Senator Deb Fischer. “I am pleased to be meeting with Taiwanese officials and discuss how we can advance our shared goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific and strengthen the enduring friendship of our peoples.”
